Developers The Outsiders revealed this week that they are working on a new rhythm FPS titled Metal: Hellsinger, due for release in 2021.
Players will have to dispatch enemies while at the same time trying to keep up with the music, as The Outsiders‘ new title is a mix of first person shooter and rhythm game where both aiming skill and the ability to shoot on beat count. The soundtrack features a number of metal legends, such as Matt Heafy (Trivium) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), and it will work in a novel way that has been described as “layered music”, where each level will have its own song divided into multiple layers that will be affected by the player’s performance. Depending on how you are doing, you’ll start with some atmospheric background music and maybe end the level with a powerful metal anthem that would rock anyone’s socks off.
We want to make this the most metal game ever. Or get as far as we possibly could, anyway! To make something that felt like a tribute to the epic imagination and joy and fury of metal – not just in terms of music, but art style, characters, lore. Trying to do it has been an amazing joy and we can’t wait to get it into the world for people to play.

The developers are aiming for a 2021 release date, with PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions all in the works.
