Have you heard of Old School RuneScape (OSRS)? It’s a pretty big game, and with good reason — it’s great fun. Originally released in 2013, the ‘Old School’ part of the name is no joke — the version that was released was exactly the same as the RuneScape game as it was back in 2007. It’s been modified a fair amount since then, in ways that most people consider to be for the better! If you’ve never played before, then why not get involved? Plenty of people play it, and it looks like it’ll be around for a while. But if you’re a complete beginner, what are the best ways to get started? We take a look below.

What’s All the Buzz?
You’ll be more inclined — and excited — to play if you know what all the buzz is about. It all takes place in a fantasy world called Gielinor, where various forces battle it out for control.
The Learning Curve
One of the best things about OSRS is that it’s super detailed and multidimensional. You can play for hours, because there’s so much to see and do — it’s not a game that you get bored of! But of course, the complexity of the game is a positive thing if you know the game well, something of a nightmare if you’re new to the game. When you first begin playing, you’ll want to take your time, read up on the basics, and more or less ignore the non-essential aspects. They’ll all be added to your knowledge bank in time. In the beginning, just ride out the learning curve, and have fun.
Building Up
Once you’ve got the basics functions, you’ll want to work on getting better at the game. There are multiple ways to go about this in the OSRS universe. For example, you’ll find the game’s much easier to play if you can make sense of the map — it really does help. Having some gold is always useful, too — if you’re finding it hard to come by, you can get some from 4rsgold.com. While it might not sound like the most exciting thing in the world, it’s important that you train; it’ll serve you well when you’re playing for real. And don’t just focus on upping your skill level in just one area. It’s a good idea to be an all-rounder!
YouTube Help
The more you play Old School RuneScape, the more you’ll come to realize that, yup, there’s a whole world here that you don’t understand. You might not have a firm grasp on it, but someone does! Take a look at the best RuneScape related YouTube channels — they’re always filled with invaluable advice that’ll make you better, and the game more enjoyable to play.
Have Fun!
Finally, make sure you’re having fun. Old School RuneScape can be a little overwhelming in the beginning, but it’s worthwhile riding out those confusing moments. In no time, you’ll be a diehard OSRS convert, even if you weren’t a part of the original fandom way back when.
